Here are some books and maps, that make Glacier a bit easier to navigate for the Novice.  It took me quite a while to really get to know the land of Glacier, and I still have much more to learn.  Along with these resources, the best way to learn of hikes and trails is word of mouth.  Stop in to one of the Lodge's and ask someone who works there.  The people that know Glacier love to spread their Lore of the Land to others.

The "Bible" of Glacier. It includes accounts of Climbs and passes with no trails.  Sometimes this book can be discouraging, some of the accounts are so specific, you wouldn't be able to find the way unless you know the area.  It is a good introduction into the park, and is fun to just read and look at the spectacular photos.                                       By J.Gordon Edwards

If you plan to stick to Man's Trails than grab a book like this.  Falcon publishing, publish's most of the trail guides and they're good.  Also, don't forget to stop into one of the Lodge's and grab a trail guide for the different areas of Glacier, and for free.

What fool would trod through a place like Glacier without a map.  I got this map for about 7$ and it's wonderful.  A must grab at one of the local shops.
