This is my hike of choice
in the Lake McDonald Valley. The Sperry Chalet area, is also
known as Glacier Basin. When one reaches the area they see why.
You can tell a massive Glacier tore through all the rock and carved
out this basin. All around this small valley are huge cliffs of
stone with waterfalls trinkling down their massive faces like tears.
Awesome valley and your sure to see wildlife along the way.
Since the Going to The Sun didn't open till July
3rd, I hiked to this location 3 times. I never was here when
the Chalet was open but, I'm sure it's better with it closed. Early in the season
Glacier is very empty and is a great time to hike. The mountains
still have snow on them, the Gapers have yet to arrive, and the bears
are out eating. |
